“Raised the old fashioned way”

Mary’s Free Range Chicken is proud to be family-owned and operated since 1954. The business began with Don Pitman in 1954 and now it’s in its 3rd generation with his grandson, David. When Don’s son, Rick, took over he decided to name the turkeys and chickens after his wife, Mary. He did this because “she has studied nutrition and read labels for 25 years, looking for pure products in an effort to regain her health”. The chickens are raised in a stress-free environment that is four times the size of an average commercial ranch where they can roam free. This allows for the production of a “healthier and happier chicken” resulting in a better taste. Mary’s is the first in the industry to be verified with the Non-GMO Project. They currently hold a step 3 rating which means that all chickens have access to the outdoors, the outdoor spaces include plenty of water and shade and provide bales of straw and eucalyptus tree branches to enrich the natural behaviors of the chickens. All the chickens are also fed an organic, vegetarian diet.

Harrison Poultry Inc. in Bethlehem, GA is a private company established in 1947 and incorporated in Georgia.

Norbest, Inc., headquartered in Midvale, Utah, is a federated marketing cooperative dealing exclusively with turkeys and value-added turkey products. It is the oldest cooperative organization of its type globally and is one of the top turkey marketing firms in the United States.

The objectives of the new association were to “produce and pack a higher grade of birds, to establish a known quality…to eliminate as much speculation as to possible…and pack a product, using federal grades, of uniform standard quality that will command both respect and the confidence of buyers.” The Northwestern Turkey Growers Association was among the first to adopt federal grading standards. Northwestern received a “Number One” grade throughout its second year of operation, which proved to be a significant marketing advantage. Ever since the co-op has adhered to the highest government and industry standards of quality.

Today all Norbest branded whole birds are USDA Grade A — the highest grade possible. “The purpose of Norbest, Inc. is to deliver the maximum long-term return to our producer members by strategically marketing high-quality turkey products worldwide. This requires total commitment to providing both our trade customers and our ultimate consumers consistently high-quality product and service.”

“Food that comes from a place of integrity”

Wayne Farms is one of the largest poultry producers in the US. Their belief is that consumers and operators have the right to know where their food comes from so they have a “completely vertically integrated process” giving them control over every step. Therefore, they know how the chickens are raised, what they are fed, and where they come from giving Wayne Farm “a level of traceability and accountability unparalleled by the majority of food production”. All their birds are raised with a nutritious diet that ensures healthy growth and is free of hormones and steroids. Wayne Farms chicken houses are all controlled, cageless environments that provide adequate space, fresh air, clean water, and all-natural feed
